Schools across five districts of Mizoram remained closed on Wednesday as heavy rain and strong winds continued to lash the state for a third consecutive day. Educational institutions in Aizawl, Serchhip, and Lunglei had already suspended classes on Tuesday, while authorities in Hnahthial and Lawngtlai joined them in ordering closures on Wednesday.

School education director Angela Zothanpuii confirmed that administrations in all five districts took the precautionary step to safeguard students amid worsening weather conditions. The Aizawl district administration noted that persistent downpours have sharply increased the risk of landslides, mudflows, rockfalls, and flash floods.

Since Monday, Mizoram has been battered by torrential rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, leaving widespread damage in its wake. The State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation department reported that more than 70 houses, several church halls, schools, and government buildings were damaged by storms between Monday and Tuesday.
