Security forces in Manipur have reportedly recovered a Starlink-like satellite internet device along with a cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in Imphal East district on December 13. The haul included sniper rifles, pistols, grenades, and other war-like equipment, officials familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.
The discovery of the internet device, bearing the Starlink logo and marked with inscriptions linked to the RPF/PLA, has raised concerns among authorities. Investigations are underway to determine how such equipment reached the strife-hit state, especially since Starlink lacks a license to operate in India. Official confirmation on whether the device is a genuine Starlink product is still pending.
The operation, carried out jointly by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police, also extended to Churachandpur, Chandel, and Kangpokpi districts. In a statement on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), the Dimapur-headquartered Spear Corps shared images of the recovered items, which included 29 weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores.
The Manipur Police, in a separate post on ‘X’, provided further details about the seizure. Items recovered included an MA4 assault rifle, a 12-bore gun, two pistols, five hand grenades, detonators, 5.56 mm ammunition, and the satellite internet device comprising an antenna and router.
