Security forces have arrested seven militants belonging to various proscribed outfits during a series of operations carried out across Manipur this week, police said on Friday.

The arrests were made on Wednesday and Thursday from different locations in Imphal West, Tengnoupal, Kakching, Bishnupur, and Imphal East districts.

Two active cadres of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were apprehended from Wangoi Bazar in Imphal West district, officials said. In Tengnoupal district, central forces arrested one militant each from the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Koireng) and the outlawed PREPAK (Pro) near Border Pillar No. 87 along the India-Myanmar border.

Another active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG) was nabbed from Sekmaijing Khunou in Kakching district. Police said he was involved in extortion activities in the valley region.

In a separate operation, a woman cadre of the outlawed KCP (PSC) was apprehended from Phaknung Thongkhong in Imphal East district on Wednesday. Meanwhile, another active member of the proscribed PREPAK was arrested from Kwakta Terakhongshangbi Bazar in Bishnupur district for his alleged involvement in extortion.

Arms and ammunition were seized from the Bishnupur accused’s residence during the operation, officials added.
