BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah legislator A L Hek has announced that several senior political figures in Meghalaya are preparing to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. He revealed that sitting MLAs, former legislators, and members of district councils have already expressed interest in switching to the saffron party, with discussions currently underway.

Hek stated that many leaders have contacted him directly, showing willingness to align with the BJP, and more inductions are expected in the coming days. He reaffirmed the party’s long-term objective of forming a BJP-led government in Meghalaya after the 2028 Assembly elections.

Highlighting the BJP’s recent electoral successes, Hek described the outcomes in Assam, West Bengal, and Puducherry as “landslide victories,” noting that the margin of victory in West Bengal exceeded expectations.

At present, the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly is led by the National People’s Party (NPP), which holds 26 seats. Its allies include the United Democratic Party with 11 seats, the People’s Democratic Front with 2 seats, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party with 2 seats, while the BJP itself has 2 seats.
