The 79th Independence Day Celebration 2025, organised by the Yangthang Sporting Club in collaboration with the District Administration, Gyalshing, entered its seventh day of celebration at Kyongsa Stadium on Friday.
The day’s programme was graced by entrepreneur and owner of Cherry Grand, Sushil Tamang, as the chief guest. He was joined by District Collector Tenzing D. Denzongpa, along with retired Army personnel, retired teachers and officers, other dignitaries from the district, and members of the celebration committee.
A total of four football matches were held under three categories: Men’s Open Football Tournament, Veterans Football Tournament, and the Inter-School Championship.
In the Men’s Open Football Tournament, Singling Sporting Club defeated Kalimpong Police with a dominating score of 6–0. Rabin Chettri of Singling Sporting Club was named Man of the Match.
In the Veterans Football Tournament, Yangthang GPU secured a convincing win over Singyang Chumbung GPU with a final score of 6–0.
The Inter-School Championship featured two matches, both of which were decided by tiebreakers. Government Senior Secondary School Sakyong emerged victorious against PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School Pelling, while Damber Singh Limboo Memorial Senior Secondary School Darap defeated Government Secondary School Middle Gyalshing.
Sancha Hang Limboo, General Secretary of the Celebration Committee, served as the Master of Ceremony for the day. The vote of thanks was delivered by PR Kharka, Patron of the Celebration Committee.
