Gangtok, Jun 26: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the 40th birthday celebration of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, held at the Dharma Chakra Centre, Rumtek Monastery, on Thursday. The event was marked by deep spiritual significance and reverence.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Kyabje Zurmang Gharwang Rinpoche. Also present were Ecclesiastical Minister Sonam Lama, Area MLA Sonam T. Venchungpa, Advisor and former Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha, monks, dignitaries, and devotees, all of whom gathered to offer their prayers and respect to His Holiness.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Sikkim, Chief Minister Tamang extended prayers for the Karmapa’s long life, good health, and continued spiritual leadership. He acknowledged His Holiness as a global spiritual figure whose teachings inspire peace and compassion worldwide.
“May His Holiness continue to illuminate the path of Dharma and guide sentient beings with his boundless compassion and wisdom for many years to come,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister also took part in the Sang Puja, which was conducted virtually and presided over by the Karmapa. Despite being held online, the puja was described as a deeply moving and spiritually enriching experience for all participants, symbolising unity in prayer and devotion.
