Sikkim CM Attends High-Level Task Force Meeting On Tourism In North East Region

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the third meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Tourism in the North Eastern Region virtually from Samman Bhawan on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and attended by Union Minister for Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. It focused on developing a comprehensive strategy for promoting and strengthening tourism across the North Eastern Region.

To enhance regional collaboration, the Ministry of DoNER has constituted a High-Power Committee comprising four states Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Meghalaya. The committee will work towards identifying opportunities and addressing challenges in the tourism sector through a coordinated approach.

According to the Chief Minister, the discussions covered key aspects such as infrastructure improvement, sustainable tourism practices, connectivity enhancement, capacity building, and promotion of the region’s cultural and natural heritage.

The meeting also emphasized leveraging the North East’s unique tourism assets to create a distinct identity that appeals to both domestic and international visitors while ensuring sustainability and inclusivity.

The High-Power Committee’s report, containing actionable recommendations and a strategic roadmap for holistic tourism growth in the region, will be finalized and submitted soon.
