Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang conducted a visit to the newly constructed 500-Bedded District Hospital in Namchi, inspecting the functional wards of Radiology, Physiotherapy, and Ophthalmology. He also reviewed the Blood Bank, OT Rooms, NICU, Private Wards, and Central Laboratory, personally testing medical equipment and interacting with staff.

The visit is part of the upcoming Sewa Pakhwada 2025, reflecting the state’s focus on health, environment, and social awareness. The Chief Minister highlighted that the previous hospital, established in 1975, faced space and infrastructure limitations, and praised the new hospital for its modern facilities and advanced medical technologies.

Originally planned as a 300-bedded facility, the hospital was upgraded to 500 beds to meet long-term healthcare needs. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of healthcare, urged the administration to make the hospital fully operational, and stressed the deployment of qualified staff. He also directed a strict ban on paan and tobacco products in the hospital and emphasized cleanliness in public facilities.

The hospital is equipped with a centralized air-conditioning system, an Effluent Treatment Plant, a 14-bedded Dialysis Unit, 14 ICUs, a Central Sterile Supply Department, and advanced equipment in Radiology, Physiotherapy, Ophthalmology, and AYUSH departments. Six functional OPDs and specialized departments in Orthology, Dental, and Psychiatry provide comprehensive care.

The Chief Minister announced the appointment of a hospital administrator to ensure coordinated management and create employment opportunities. He also mentioned that Sikkim will have its own medical college in the coming year.

Health Secretary Tshewang Gyaccho Bhutia highlighted that the hospital, inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29, 2025, aims to provide quality healthcare to all, including underprivileged patients.

The programme was attended by senior officials, ministers, MLAs, Zilla Adhakshya, councillors, and hospital staff.
