Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the observance of National Dentists Day on Saturday at the auditorium of STNM Hospital.
In his address, the Chief Minister noted that oral diseases remain among the most common health concerns across all age groups. He highlighted the importance of regular dental check-ups, early detection, and good oral hygiene practices.
He also pointed out the link between oral health and systemic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, stressing the need for early screening and timely treatment of oral conditions, including oral cancer.
The Chief Minister stated that in Sikkim, dental surgeons and specialists provide preventive and curative services through district hospitals, primary health centres, and school health programmes. He also emphasized the significance of pediatric dentistry in safeguarding children’s oral health.
The occasion showcased initiatives by the Health Department aimed at strengthening healthcare services in the state through improved infrastructure, specialised services, and enhanced medical facilities.
CM Tamang extended his appreciation and best wishes to dentists and dental healthcare professionals for their dedicated service, noting that oral health is integral to overall health and essential for achieving Universal Health Coverage.
