Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed Mangan District Hospital, a modern healthcare facility serving North Sikkim. The event was attended by public representatives, senior government officials, medical staff, and residents.
The hospital, the main health centre for North Sikkim, caters to five public health sub-centres, nearly half of the district’s population, a significant migratory workforce, and tourists. It spans 59,808 sq ft across four floors.
The Ground Floor (17,447 sq ft) includes reception, registration, pharmacy, general medicine, surgical, eye, dermatology, psychiatric, ENT, dental, paediatric, and orthopaedic OPDs. It also houses the physiotherapy unit, medical store, CT scan, radiology, immunization and cold chain rooms, MCH room, and Trauma Care Centre connector.
The First Floor (16,589 sq ft) accommodates the paediatric and gynaecology departments, laboratory facilities, post-natal care, and two six-bedded wards.
The Second Floor (16,589 sq ft) comprises the surgical department with main OT and ICU, male and female wards, orthopaedic, geriatric, de-addiction, respiratory distress rooms, and general medicine wards. Support facilities including HVAC, electrical, and laundry rooms are also located here.
The Top Floor (8,203 sq ft) houses a conference hall, canteen, separate washrooms, and common access areas.
The hospital is seismically resilient and designed to optimise patient flow, expand critical departments, and meet modern healthcare standards.
After inaugurating the hospital, Chief Minister Tamang toured the facility, including the Dialysis and Emergency Units, interacted with medical staff, reviewed critical equipment, and inspected patient wards, stressing the importance of cleanliness and 24-hour services.
The ceremony was attended by Health Minister GT Dhungel, Ministers Sonam Lama, Samdup Lepcha, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, MLA Thenlay Tshering Bhutia, Zilla Adhyaksha Kado Lepcha, Zilla Upadhyaksha Sonam Kipa Bhutia, and other senior officials and dignitaries.
