A landslide triggered by continuous rainfall on July 30 evening washed away the link road from Paljor Stadium to the DC Office, between Tamang Gumpa and 90 Bazar. The incident disrupted vehicular movement and damaged essential infrastructure, including a power transformer and a PHE water tank.
The landslide has endangered nearby structures, particularly the residence of L.B. Tamang. The affected family was safely evacuated and relocated with assistance from the Sadar Police. The area has been cordoned off from both ends, and beat police have been deployed for overnight monitoring.
A team led by the Deputy Commissioner, including the ADC, SDM, Joint Director (DDMA), and Assistant Collector, visited the site to assess the situation. While no casualties have been reported, public utility services have been impacted.
Due to ongoing rainfall, inspection by the concerned line departments was delayed. Tarpaulin covers have been placed over the slide area to prevent further deterioration. The Forest Department has been instructed to cut down trees that pose a danger to life and property during daylight hours.
Officials from the Smart City, Mines & Geology, Power, and PHED departments are scheduled to carry out a joint inspection at 10:30 a.m. on July 31 under the supervision of the SDM Gangtok. Restoration work will begin thereafter.
