The Excise Department of Sikkim organised a three-day refresher training programme on Excise Laws for its officers and officials from all six districts. The training was held at the department’s headquarters in Gangtok from August 5 to 7.
The sessions focused on various aspects of Excise Acts and Rules, particularly relating to seizures, departmental proceedings, and the issuance of licenses. Retired Joint Commissioner Namyal Dorjee Bhutia and Legal Officer Tashi Doma Nadikpa served as resource persons for the training.
Officials had the opportunity to raise field-related challenges during the interactive sessions. Trainers provided practical guidance on addressing such issues with calmness and presence of mind.
On the concluding day, participants attended a detailed presentation on the E-ABKARI software. A written test was also conducted, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from the trainees.
The valedictory session was graced by Excise Secretary Jeewan Subba, Commissioner Binita Chettri, and Additional Secretary Samten Dolma Bhutia. In his address, the Secretary expressed hope that the training would help improve service delivery and enhance the efficiency of the department. He also stressed the need to ensure that the public does not face delays or obstacles in obtaining or renewing licenses.
As part of practical training, field visits for license verification and dry day inspections are scheduled for August 8 and 9.
