Gangtok, Jan 13: The Department of Education, Government of Sikkim, has initiated an Exposure Tour for students from the state’s government colleges. The tour, which commenced on January 13 and will run until January 19, 2025, will take 125 students and six faculty members to Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur to explore historical, cultural, and educational landmarks.
Raju Basnett, Minister for Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, and Law and Parliamentary Affairs, flagged off the tour at the SNT complex in Gangtok. Students from five government colleges – Tadong Government College, Burtuk Law College, Sheda College, Government Sanskrit College Samdong, and Sikkim Government College Mangshila – are participating in the tour.
The exposure tour is designed to provide students with valuable learning experiences outside the classroom, allowing them to visit significant cultural and historical sites. Two buses have been arranged to ensure the comfort and safety of all participants during the journey.
During the flag-off ceremony, Basnett emphasized the importance of such educational tours in broadening students’ knowledge and fostering holistic development. He also encouraged students to document their experiences by keeping journals throughout the trip.
The event was attended by Tshewang Gyachho, Secretary of Higher Education, Tashi Chophel Lepcha, Secretary of School Education, along with senior officials from the Education Department, faculty members, students, and their guardians.
