The Horticulture Department of Sikkim inaugurated six new vending carts at Ravangla bazar under Namchi district. The launch event was attended by MLA Riksel Dorjee Bhutia and officials from various government departments.

These vending carts are part of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme aimed at improving marketing infrastructure for horticulture produce. Initially intended for roadside vendors, the program now also supports farmers selling their produce in haat bazaars.

By providing proper selling platforms, the initiative seeks to eliminate middlemen, enabling farmers to sell directly at fair prices. The department is focusing on cluster development and organizing organic stalls to boost income and livelihoods for small-scale farmers.

This effort highlights the government’s commitment to strengthening the horticulture sector and promoting sustainable growth for farmers across the region.
