Sikkim Governor Flags Off First Batch Of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 From Nathu La

Gangtok, Jun 20: The first batch of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 via the Nathu La route was flagged off on Friday by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur at the Nathu La Border Gate. The ceremony was organised by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

The inaugural batch comprises 33 pilgrims and two liaison officers from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. Additional Chief Secretary of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, CS Rao, welcomed the pilgrims and said the state government, along with relevant departments and paramilitary forces, had ensured all arrangements for a safe and smooth journey.

In his address, Governor Mathur said the resumption of the pilgrimage after six years was a result of consistent efforts by the central government. He noted the deep religious and cultural significance of the yatra and appreciated the people of Sikkim for extending warm hospitality to the pilgrims.

Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia said the reopening of the route would promote pilgrimage and tourism in Sikkim. He thanked the central government for choosing the Nathu La route and highlighted the coordinated efforts behind the arrangements.

Pilgrims expressed gratitude to both the central and state governments for their support in food, lodging, acclimatisation, and medical care. Following all required formalities and security checks, the pilgrims proceeded towards the Indo-China border to begin their spiritual journey.

The event was attended by several state ministers, MLAs, senior government officials, and personnel from various departments and paramilitary forces.
