Sanjib Lama (Tamang), distinguished journalist and publisher of the Nepali weekly newspaper Himali Sikkim, was awarded the Teesta Rangeet Aviral Kalam Puraskar 2025 by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at Paljor Stadium during the 79th State-level Independence Day celebration on Friday.
The Teesta Rangeet Aviral Kalam Puraskar is presented annually on Independence Day by the Government of Sikkim to journalists who have made significant contributions to the field. The award carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs 1,01,000. Past recipients include Anand Oberoi (2023) and Chetan Gajmer (2024).
Born on November 19, 1978, in Kurseong, Lama has been serving as Editor and Publisher of Himali Sikkim since 1997. Over 28 years, he has contributed to Nepali journalism through his editorial leadership, articles in newspapers such as Hamro Prajashakti, Hamro Varta, and Himali Bela, and efforts to preserve Nepali language and culture.
The award recognises Lama’s long-standing service in Nepali journalism, his role in fostering informed public discourse, and his contribution to strengthening the cultural fabric of the region.
