Namchi, Dec 16: The newly constructed Namchi Boxing Hall at the Namchi Parking Plaza was officially inaugurated on December 15 by Krishna Kumari Rai, former Sikkim MLA and wife of the Chief Minister of Sikkim. The event saw the presence of key dignitaries, including Satish Chandra Rai, Area MLA, Ganesh Rai, Chairman of the Namchi Municipal Corporation (NMC), alongside members of the Namchi District Boxing Association (NDBA) and local residents.
In her speech, Krishna Kumari Rai emphasized the increasing participation of women in sports, describing it as a sign of social progress. She encouraged young athletes, especially women, to focus on perseverance, discipline, and consistency, stressing that these qualities are crucial for success in both sports and life.
The Namchi Boxing Hall, which will be managed and maintained by the NDBA, is set to play a vital role in the region’s boxing community. The inauguration event also featured two exhibition boxing matches, showcasing both senior men’s and women’s categories.
