An official inspection was conducted Thursday at Lingding Ringdang under Singhik GPU to assess the damages caused by a recent landslide. The visit was led by Sandeep Kumar, IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (HQ), accompanied by Gopal Pariyar, Revenue Officer, along with a team of Revenue officials and personnel from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
The landslide has severely affected the area, with two houses reported damaged and extensive impacts on residential properties. The affected families have been relocated to safer locations and are currently staying with relatives.
Significant damage was also reported at the PGCIL Sub-Station, leading to the suspension of ongoing construction activities until further assessment and mitigation measures are implemented. Additionally, road connectivity to the Sikkim Urja Limited (SUL) Power House via Lingding Ringdang has been disrupted. SUL authorities are actively working to restore access.
During the inspection, the SDM (HQ) met with affected residents, listened to their concerns, and assured that relief measures, including ex-gratia payments, would be expedited in consultation with the District Collectorate.
The administration has also directed the Department of Mines and Geology to assess the stability of the land, which will aid in planning long-term restoration and safety measures in the area. Continuous monitoring is underway, with further steps to be taken in coordination with relevant departments.
