Gangtok, January 26: On the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day and the historic celebration of 50 years of Sikkim’s Statehood, the Government of Sikkim marked the day with an initiative that reflects purpose, progress, and pride. The Government Fruit Preservation Factory (GFPF) under the Commerce & Industries Department launched three premium dark chocolates inspired by the state’s rich agricultural heritage, celebrating the dedication of its farmers and the uniqueness of local produce.

The launch ceremony was graced by Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), Secretary of Commerce & Industries Department Karma D. Youtso, Managing Director of GFPF Chanda Rani Rai and senior officials.

Each of the chocolates embodies the essence of Sikkim’s renowned produce. The Sikkim Mandarin Orange Dark Chocolate (55% Cocoa) draws from mandarins that have long been part of the state’s culture and daily life. The Dalle Chilli Dark Chocolate (47% Cocoa) carries the bold flavour of Sikkim’s GI-tagged Dalle Chilli, while the Large Cardamom Dark Chocolate (47% Cocoa) highlights the superior aroma and quality of Sikkim’s world-famous GI-tagged Large Cardamom.

These chocolates are more than confections; they symbolize respect for farmers, value addition to local resources, and the preservation of traditional knowledge in contemporary forms. As Sikkim commemorates 50 years of Statehood, the launch reflects how local strengths can be transformed into sustainable opportunities, reinforcing the vision of inclusive growth and innovation. With pride and purpose, the products stand as a celebration of “Sunawlo, Samriddhi ani Samartha Sikkim.”
