Namchi District Hospital has inaugurated a modern Modular Operation Theatre (OT) Complex, aimed at enhancing surgical care for patients from Namchi and neighbouring areas. The complex features a Pre-Operative Room, Recovery Room, Pre-Anaesthesia Check-up Room, and five fully furnished operation theatres equipped with digital control panels, laminar flooring, and HEPA filters.
The facility includes a dedicated disposal zone adhering to infection-control and NQAS standards, designed to ensure safe surgical procedures. Advanced equipment such as a C-Arm, Harmonic Cautery, endoscopic units, Laser Radio Frequency Generator, and a PRP machine will support general surgery, ENT, orthopaedics, and other specialties, reducing the need for patient referrals outside the district.
Following sequential microbiological surveillance from 11 November 2025, which initially detected fungal and bacterial growth, the OT underwent multiple rounds of intensive cleaning, fumigation, and disinfection. The hospital’s Microbiologist certified the complex fit for use on 2 December 2025.
On 3 December 2025, a brief puja was held before surgeries commenced. The first procedure performed was a hemithyroidectomy under general anaesthesia by the ENT surgeon, supported by the anaesthesiologist, OT nurses, technicians, and support staff. The day concluded with the successful completion of two ENT and two orthopaedic surgeries, demonstrating the facility’s readiness.
The District Health Administration commended the efforts of the OT team and reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred surgical care to the people of Namchi and South Sikkim.
Namchi District Hospital is a secondary-level public health facility offering outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and specialised services under the Government of Sikkim and Government of India.
