Sikkim: Pakyong District Football Association Launches Under 16 Boys Football League 2025

The Pakyong District Under-16 Boys Football League 2025 began at St Xavier’s Ground, Pakyong on Saturday. Organised by the Pakyong District Football Association (PDFA), the league aims to promote grassroots football and nurture sporting talent among the district’s youth.

The tournament provides a platform for young players from schools and local clubs to showcase their football skills, gain competitive experience, and develop teamwork and confidence, preparing them for higher levels of competition at the state and national levels.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by District Collector Rohan Agawane as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included ADC Pakyong Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, Additional Director of Horticulture and Agriculture Tshering Chophel Bhutia, CEO Education Narayan Mishra, JD Education BP Sharma and Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Director Agriculture Rebecca Gurung, DIO IPRD Deeki D Bhutia, BDO Pakyong Sangay Tamang, PDFA officials, and members of the public.

PDFA President and DFO (T) Sonam Pintso Bhutia highlighted the association’s initiatives, stating that the league would provide exposure to young footballers while promoting physical fitness and overall well-being.

The tournament features five teams: Pakyong United Sporting Club (PUSC), Majitar Sporting Club (MSC), Rhenock Sporting Club (RSC), Pendam Football Academy (PFA), and Rhenock Rongli Sports Association (RRSA). The final match is scheduled for September 30.

On the inaugural day, Pakyong United Sporting Club defeated Majitar Sporting Club 9-1, with Master Samdup Tamang of PUSC named Man of the Match. In the second match, Rhenock Rongli Sports Association beat Pendam Football Academy 3-1, while Master Nischal Tamang of PFA was named Man of the Match.

The opening day also featured cultural performances by students from various schools, adding a festive touch to the event.
