Gangtok, Nov 18: A coordination meeting on the implementation of the Supreme Court order regarding stray dog management in institutional premises was held at the District Administrative Centre on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by District Collector, Pakyong, Rohan Agawane.
Officials present included Additional District Collector (HQ) Sabindra Rai, Chief Medical Officer Madan Mani Dhakal, Additional Director of AH&VS Department Anjala Pradhan, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Thendup Lepcha, SDM of LR&DM Department SK Pradhan, Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Nim Dorjee Bhutia, MEO Rangpo Suren Tamang, Bazar Officer UDD DP Sharma, GM NHIDCL A Bhaumik, and Block Development Officers from across the district.
During the meeting, the District Collector directed concerned departments to prepare a comprehensive list of all institutional premises, including schools, colleges, hospitals, PHCs, sports venues, bus stands, and major state and national highways.
He also requested strategies from departments on sterilisation measures, availability of shelter houses, and the Sikkim Anti-Rabies and Animal Health (SARAH) programme, which covers animal birth control and anti-rabies initiatives.
A campaign was proposed to enable residents to report stray dog and livestock-related issues directly to the AH&VS Department. Departments were asked to submit their lists within a specified timeframe for review.
