Special Olympics Bharat, Sikkim Chapter (SOB, SC) and the Education Department, Government of Sikkim, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 29th August 2025 to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities in the state. The agreement was signed by the Secretary of School Education, Education Department, and the President of Special Olympics Bharat, Sikkim Chapter, at Gangtok.

The MoU aims to promote inclusivity through organizing sporting events, mainstreaming athletes with special needs, and building the capacities of students with intellectual disabilities in Special and Inclusive Schools.

The partnership will also focus on academic enrichment and exposure activities for children with special needs (CWSN), in line with the National Educational Policy 2020 and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
