Gangtok, Jun 30: The Rajya Puruskar Award Ceremony took place on Monday at Raj Bhavan, Gangtok, honoring outstanding Scouts and Guides from various schools across Sikkim. The event was graced by the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, who served as the Chief Guest.
The Governor congratulated the awardees for their dedication and service under the Bharat Scouts and Guides program, emphasizing the importance of discipline, dedication, and service. He highlighted that receiving the Rajya Puruskar Award marks a beginning and encouraged the students to aspire toward the President’s Award, the highest recognition in the Scouts and Guides movement.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor said the youth are the strength and hope of the nation and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, with the Bharat Scouts and Guides exemplifying this vision.
The program included cultural performances by St. Joseph Convent, Martam, and Sungdunglakaha School, along with a patriotic song titled ‘Neel Gagan Mein Ek Chand Hai.’ Governor Mathur presented the Rajya Puruskar Award to 20 guides and four scouts, as well as a certificate to Mukund Dhungyel for completing the Leaders Trainers Course, the highest level of Scouts and Guides training.
The ceremony began with a welcome note by Elizabeth Shyangbo and concluded with a vote of thanks by State Commissioner Guides Meena Bhutia.
