Minister-cum-Area MLA of Dzongu, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, inaugurated the newly constructed Sangkalang bridge in Dzongu on Wednesday. The bridge, now open for all types of traffic, aims to restore critical connectivity in the region.

The project reflects coordinated efforts by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the Minister-cum-Area MLA, and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO/GREF) in collaboration with the Government of Sikkim.

The bridge serves as a key lifeline for residents of Dzongu and the upper areas of North Sikkim, including Chungthang, Lachen, and Lachung. Earlier, two bridges in the area were washed away by River Teesta due to heavy rainfall and flash floods, disrupting connectivity in Mangan district and surrounding regions.

The new structure is a 230-foot permanent modular bridge with a load capacity of 40 tons. Constructed by the 107 RCC under Project Swastik of the Border Roads Organisation, the bridge was completed in five months.

The inauguration was attended by Zilla Upa Adhakshya Kipa Bhutia, DC Mangan Anant Jain, SP Mangan Sonam Detchu Bhutia, APS North Phurba Bhutia, senior BRO officers, SDM Dzongu Gideon Lepcha, BDO Dzongu Mahendra Tamang, RO Dzongu Anant Rai, and other officials from various line departments.
