The Sikkim government is preparing to open the Doklam and Cho La regions for domestic tourists by the end of September under the Centre’s Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan scheme. Official sources have confirmed that Doklam, Cho La, and Nathula are among the key destinations identified for inclusion in the state’s battlefield tourism circuit.

While Nathula is already accessible to visitors, efforts are underway to develop Doklam and Cho La in coordination with the Indian Army and other relevant agencies. Infrastructure development, including parking facilities, restrooms, and cafeterias, is in progress to ensure basic amenities for tourists.

This move marks a significant shift, as Doklam—located nearly 14,000 feet above sea level and about 70 km from Gangtok—has remained off-limits to civilians since the 2017 standoff between Indian and Chinese troops. The upcoming opening is expected to enhance tourism and generate interest in the region’s strategic and historical significance.
