Tourism Minister Tshering T Bhutia attended the two-day State Tourism Ministers’ Meeting held in Udaipur, Rajasthan on October 14 and 15. The meeting, convened by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, brought together Tourism Ministers and senior officials from all States and Union Territories to discuss advancing India’s tourism transformation agenda.
Bhutia was accompanied by Neeraj Pradhan, PCE-cum-Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim. The conference was inaugurated by Union Minister for Tourism & Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who highlighted the “One State, One Global Destination” initiative, aiming to develop 50 world-class tourist destinations across India as outlined in the Union Budget 2025-26.
During the two-day meet, States and UTs presented proposals for globally benchmarked tourist destinations. Sikkim showcased the “Khangchendzonga Experience Centre” at Bulbuley, Gangtok, as a potential destination under the national initiative. Discussions focused on private sector-led tourism hub development, destination management, and performance-linked incentives.
The conference also featured consultations on the draft Integrated Tourism Promotion Scheme Guidelines to position India as a competitive tourism destination internationally and domestically. Officials emphasized collaborative action among the Centre, States/UTs, and industry stakeholders to foster a sustainable and inclusive tourism ecosystem.
The inaugural session was attended by Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria, Tourism Secretary V. Vidyavathi, and Additional Secretary Suman Billa.
