Sikkim Tourism made a notable impact at the Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) Kolkata with the official unveiling of two new tourist destinations—Soreng and Yangang. The launch event, held on Thursday, was part of the state’s strategy to expand its tourism offerings and promote experience-based travel in the Himalayas.

Supported by the Soreng Tourism Development Association (STDA), Yangang Tourism Development Committee (YTDC), and the Tourism Department, Government of Sikkim, the event showcased destination films that highlighted Soreng’s rural tourism appeal and Yangang’s modern attractions, including a newly launched ropeway and an upcoming skywalk.

The initiative was also backed by Sikkim Inspires—a World Bank-supported government project focused on enhancing livelihood opportunities, especially for women and youth, through sectors like tourism.

The event saw the presence of several key dignitaries, including MLA and Deputy Speaker Rajkumari Thapa; MLA Soreng-Chakung Aditya Golay; MLA Maneybung Dentam and Tourism Advisor Sudesh Kumar Subba; Bikash Basnet, Political Secretary (Press and Publicity Affairs) to the Chief Minister; and Karma Subba, Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister.

MLA Rajkumari Thapa noted the growing appeal of Yangang, stating, “It could serve as a remarkable gateway to Sikkim tourism with its upcoming skywalk and immersive travel experiences.”

MLA Aditya Golay emphasized Soreng’s potential for slow travel, adding, “This is the right time to focus on rural tourism and bring the stories of our communities to a global audience.”

Both leaders credited Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for his progressive policies aimed at empowering local communities and promoting sustainable tourism in the state.

Political Secretary Bikash Basnet described the event as a milestone for Sikkim’s tourism development, highlighting the government’s strong commitment to sustainable growth.

The event also featured a panel discussion led by tourism strategist Robin Basnet, focusing on branding, rural tourism, and the challenges of destination promotion. The session drew strong interest from industry participants and further reinforced Sikkim’s forward-looking approach to tourism.

With the spotlight on Soreng and Yangang, Sikkim’s participation at TTF Kolkata marked a significant step in positioning the state as a leading destination for authentic and adventure-driven travel experiences.
