The North East NSS Festival 2025 commenced on Monday in Gangtok, bringing together 300 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from across the North East for a five-day event promoting youth service and cultural unity.
Organised by the Sikkim State NSS Cell, Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, the festival is scheduled to run from September 15 to 19, 2025, at Manan Kendra and Paljor Stadium.
The inaugural day included registration, distribution of ID cards, track suits, and shoes, followed by room allotments for all participants. In the afternoon, volunteers gathered at Paljor Stadium for a detailed briefing and rehearsal for the opening ceremony.
During the festival, activities will focus on health and family welfare, environmental conservation, women’s empowerment including rights-awareness sessions and self-defence training, and disaster management drills in collaboration with local authorities.
Reflecting the NSS motto “Not Me, But You,” the event aims to strengthen civic responsibility and community engagement through a mix of service projects, cultural performances, and leadership activities. A formal inauguration programme is scheduled for tomorrow at Manan Kendra.
