The skeletal remains of a government school teacher from Sikkim, who had been missing for over seven months, were recovered from a locked house in Siliguri on Thursday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Passang Doma Sherpa, a Nepali teacher at a government school in Sikkim’s Namchi district. She had been missing since August 7, 2024. A missing person report had been filed by her family, confirmed Namchi Superintendent of Police Karma Gyamtso Bhutia.
The remains were discovered inside a house owned by Sherpa in the Devidanga area of Siliguri, around 100 km from Namchi. The house, located in a secluded area, had been locked from the outside. Police broke open the door during the investigation.
The skeletal remains have been sent for post-mortem, and DNA profiling will be conducted to confirm the identity. Police are probing all possible angles, including abduction, confinement, and unnatural death. A forensic investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
