Agartala, February 12, 2026: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday asserted that the nationwide general strike called by central trade unions had no impact in Tripura, claiming that normal life continued uninterrupted across the state.
Reacting to the strike, the Chief Minister said no district reported any disruption, and that government offices, courts, educational institutions, markets and commercial establishments functioned as usual. “The politics of bandh is no longer in practice. Public life in the state remained completely normal,” he stated.
Taking a swipe at the Left parties, Dr. Saha alleged that the bandh call was politically motivated and aimed at creating inconvenience for common citizens. He claimed that while the Left professes to stand for workers’ rights, such actions end up causing hardship to the public. “They speak about the working class but have always prioritised their political interests,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister further alleged that industrial growth had suffered during the previous Left Front regime, claiming that several factories in Tripura were shut down under their rule. He said the closure of industrial units had adversely affected employment and economic development in the state.
Dr. Saha also criticised the former Left government for what he described as its failure to ensure meaningful development for poor and tribal communities. He asserted that the present BJP government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is implementing a series of welfare schemes aimed at inclusive growth and socio-economic upliftment across all sections of society.
“The people are no longer willing to be misled by outdated political tactics,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the strike failed to evoke public response in the state.
Reiterating his stand, Dr. Saha maintained that the bandh had no visible effect anywhere in Tripura and that the state functioned normally throughout the day.
