Agartala, February 11, 2026: The Supreme Court has directed the Tripura State Election Commission to conduct Village Committee (VC) elections simultaneously with the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls, delivering a setback to the state government.

Former Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma shared the development on social media, stating that the apex court issued clear instructions for both elections to be held together.

This marks the return of VC-level polls after nearly a decade, a move Debbarma believes will strengthen grassroots democracy and end a long wait for local representation.

He emphasized that the decision would reinforce democratic structures at the village level, ensuring greater participation and accountability in governance.
