Agartala, June 20, 2025: A man suspected of involvement in human trafficking was arrested by Agartala GR Police with support from the Border Security Force (BSF) and Kalamchoura Police Station in the early hours of Friday.
The accused has been identified as 42-year-old Sharif Mia of Kalamchoura in Sepahijala district was taken into custody near the Dudhpukur Mosque. He is the son of the late Bachchu Mia.
The arrest was made in connection with an ongoing investigation into cross-border human trafficking activities. While the full details of the case are yet to be disclosed, law enforcement officials suspect Mia’s involvement in a larger trafficking syndicate operating along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GR Police Station Tapas Das confirmed that a special investigation team is currently interrogating Mia to extract further information about the network. “We are following up on multiple leads, and more arrests from the region are likely,” Das stated.
Authorities presented Mia before a local court on Friday and sought his remand to continue the investigation. Security forces remain vigilant as they expand efforts to dismantle trafficking routes in the sensitive border regions of Tripura.
