TCPCR To Unveil Child Rights Club In HS Schools Of Tripura

Agartala, April 26, 2022 : Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) in collaboration with School Education department will open Child Rights Club in all class XII schools to aware students regarding incidents of Child Marriage, Child Abuse and Child Labour.

Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Tuesday, TCPCR chairperson Nilima Ghosh said “The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is providing funds for opening of Child Rights Club in all class XII schools. In this regard, we have spoken to the state’s Education minister Ratanlal Nath and necessary measures are initiated to open such clubs at school level”.

“Teachers and students of higher secondary classes would become the members of these clubs. They will report us if there is any incident of child abuse, marriage or any kind exploitation that comes under the jurisdiction of Child Rights Commission for timely action”, she added.

TCPCR chairperson said “The commission is waiting for the school examinations to end. The clubs would be formed once the exams are over. The state commission will also facilitate counsellors to visit schools and address sessions for children if there is any request from the School Education department.”

“The TCPCR has also initiated several future plans like extensive awareness programmes on child marriage in the school level, regular visit to homes, schools and hostels have been also planned to get a sense of the situation”, Ghosh told reporters.

Citing a programme launched measuring the weight of school bags, the commission’s chairperson said “There is a specific verdict of the Supreme Court of India, but the private schools of the state are alleged to be violating the apex court’s order. Hence, we will visit every government and private school and ask the authorities to confirm that these issues are addressed as soon as possible.”

She further added that “In these four months of 2022, TCPCR had solved four cases of which 12 cases are in the pipeline to be solved. Awareness Camp on Child Marriage has been organized at Kalkalia, West Tripura district, awareness camps on Child Marriage and other Child Rights organized in 12 schools under different districts with the funding of state’s SW&SE department. Swachhata Pakhwada, state level workshops on child adoption and Pariksha Parv 4.0 are also held.”
