Agartala, July 22, 2025: Breaking all bounds of ethical responsibility and trust, an associate professor of Chemistry at Kamalpur Government College in Dhalai district has been caught on camera allegedly engaging in repeated indecent acts with a female student inside the college premises. The revelation has sparked outrage among locals and academics, casting doubt on the safety and integrity of educational institutions.
According to sources, the accused professor, who previously served at Belonia College and now resides in Agartala’s Jogendra Nagar had been posted to Kamalpur Government College since 2018. It is alleged that for the past two years, he maintained a clandestine and illicit relationship with a sixth-semester honors student reportedly the only one enrolled in the department under the guise of academic mentorship.
“This is not just a moral collapse but a gross misuse of authority. When a teacher, who is meant to be a guide and role model, indulges in such immoral behavior, it shakes the foundation of our educational system,” said a faculty member of the college on condition of anonymity.
Allegations suggest that the professor deliberately kept the student isolated in the department during classes, exploiting the situation to initiate and continue a physical relationship. Sources further revealed that the college principal, suspecting the inappropriate behavior, had earlier advised the professor to conduct classes in the presence of other students. However, the warnings went unheeded.
In a further twist, the same professor is also accused of sidelining a local guest lecturer to bring in a former student from Belonia as a replacement raising concerns of favoritism and manipulation within the department.
The scandal came to a head on Monday i.e. July 21, when video footage allegedly capturing the professor and student in intimate acts inside the classroom surfaced. The footage reportedly showed no signs of academic activity, instead exposing the faculty member’s repeated abuse of power and the degradation of institutional values.
A senior teacher at the college expressing deep concern said, “If such disgraceful incidents are allowed to persist in educational institutions, it not only taints the reputation of the college but also deeply affects the morale and mindset of other students. Education becomes a mockery when the classroom turns into a den of adultery.”
Students and parents have demanded immediate suspension and legal action against the accused professor.
However, in response to the query of this matter, College’s Principal Dr Abhijit Sarkar told Northeast Today,“Such a complaint has been raised and it is in our knowledge. There is a farewell programme tomorrow. Thereafter, we will look into this matter and initiate action accordingly.”
