Agartala, March 16, 2026: Employees and officers of Tripura Gramin Bank staged a symbolic one-day strike on Monday under the banner of the Joint Development Forum, pressing for the fulfillment of a 10-point charter of demands aimed at improving service conditions and ensuring proper implementation of agreed benefits.
The strike witnessed participation from members of the bank’s recognized unions — TGBEA, TGBEF, TGBOA and TGBOEU — who collectively joined the protest to highlight issues concerning employee welfare and institutional development.
Union representatives stated that the agitation was organized to draw the attention of the bank management toward several long-pending concerns affecting employees and officers. They said the primary objective of the strike is to secure fair implementation of salary and allowance-related agreements and to ensure a healthy and dignified working environment for staff members.
Among the key demands raised by the unions are the implementation of benefits under NABARD Ninth Joint Note and the 12th Bipartite Settlement, along with proper classification of bank branches in accordance with operational standards. The employees also demanded adequate staffing in branches based on business requirements to maintain efficiency and service quality.
The charter of demands further calls for minimum wages for Daily Rated Workers (DRW) and sanitation staff, as well as strict compliance with central government directives regarding employee entitlements. Union leaders also urged the formation of a joint consultative committee consisting of management and employee representatives to promote transparency and participatory decision-making within the institution.
Highlighting the need for long-term development, the leaders emphasized modern infrastructure planning and suggested the creation of additional administrative zones if required to strengthen the functioning of the bank.
“This symbolic strike is intended to draw the management’s attention to our legitimate demands and ensure that employees receive the rights and facilities they deserve,” union leaders said.
