Agartala, February 10, 2025: In a move aimed at enhancing Agartala’s urban landscape, Tripura Secretary of the Urban Development Department Abhishek Singh conducted a detailed inspection of three major development projects in the city on Friday. The visit covered the facelift of Jawahar Bridge’s lower portion at Battala, the construction of Unity Mall at Hapania, and the progress of a multi-purpose high-rise building at Old Motorstand. Singh was accompanied by CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited, Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, and other senior officials.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Today, Singh outlined the ambitious plans underway for Agartala’s transformation. “We have proposed a facelift for the lower portion of Jawahar Bridge at Battala, subject to approval from Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, who also holds the Urban Development portfolio,” Singh stated. He emphasized that this initiative would significantly improve traffic management while ensuring dedicated space for vendors, parking, and other public amenities. “A large-scale upliftment project will be launched as soon as we receive the Chief Minister’s green signal,” he added.

The second key project under review was the Unity Mall, currently under construction at the former Jute Mill site in Hapania. “Tripura is the fourth state in India to receive approval for this prestigious project, with an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore,” Singh informed. The state-of-the-art mall, designed to showcase products from all states and union territories under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, will feature branded retail outlets, a food court, a gaming zone, a multiplex theatre, an art gallery, and virtual reality experiences. “The piling work is currently in progress, and we expect the mall to be completed by December 2026,” he added.

The third site inspected was the multi-purpose B+G+12 high-rise building at Old Motorstand, a landmark development covering 1.8 acres with an estimated cost of Rs 110 crore. Singh highlighted the building’s multi-level parking facility, capable of accommodating at least 250 vehicles, a commercial complex, a multiplex theatre, and a four- to five-star category hotel. “At present, work on the lower basement, basement, ground floor, and first floor is completed. Parking remains a major focus for this project,” Singh explained.

These urban development initiatives are part of the state government’s broader vision for Agartala’s modernization, emphasizing efficient space utilization, traffic management, and economic growth. With these projects advancing steadily, the city is poised for a significant urban transformation in the coming years.
