Agartala, June 24, 2025: Tipra Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman has sought urgent intervention from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the increasing instances of illegal infiltration, particularly involving Rohingyas, in Tripura. In a strongly worded message on social media, Debbarman stated that infiltration across the Indo-Bangladesh border is continuing daily, and alleged that the state government has failed to take adequate action.

“The situation has become alarming. Only central forces like the Indian Army and Assam Rifles can now prevent further infiltration,” Debbarman stated, adding that the state government has maintained “complete silence” on the much-anticipated tripartite agreement involving the Centre, state, and indigenous stakeholders.

Debbarman revealed that he has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has reportedly assured him of swift action. “I had a detailed discussion with the Home Minister today. The Centre is aligned with our concerns, and in the coming days, we are scheduled to meet again to discuss the tripartite agreement and related matters,” he said.

He also warned that geopolitical shifts in Bangladesh could adversely affect Tripura and the Northeast. Referring to potential political changes in Dhaka, Debbarman said, “If Sheikh Hasina is ousted and a government led by Khaleda Zia or Mohammad Yunus comes to power, it could pose serious security concerns for Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya. These forces are anti-India.”

Highlighting historical grievances, Debbarman emphasized that parts of present-day Bangladesh—such as Chittagong, Comilla, and Bandarban—were once part of the ancient kingdom of Tripura. He argued that regaining access to Chittagong Port, just 50 km from the Tripura border, could transform the economy of the entire Northeast.

Calling for unity between tribal and Bengali communities in the state, Debbarman cautioned against divisive forces. “Some elements are trying to incite unrest. The people must remain alert and not fall prey to rumors, especially on sensitive issues like illegal infiltration,” he urged.

He concluded by stating that power is temporary, but the vision should be long-term socio-economic development for all communities.
