Agartala, May 27, 2026: A fresh political storm has erupted in Tripura after Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma launched a sharp attack on both the Central and State governments over the alleged non-implementation of the historic ‘Tiprasa Accord’, signed on March 2, 2024.

The Ramchandraghat MLA, through a strongly worded social media post, expressed frustration over what he described as continued “delay and apathy” in implementing the tripartite agreement signed between the Centre, the State government, and Tipra Motha leadership. According to him, despite the passage of two years, two months, and twenty-four days since the accord was signed, “not a single visible step” has been taken toward its execution.

Ranjit Debbarma also claimed that the failure to implement the accord was the primary reason why ‘Bubagra’ Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and the Tipra Motha Party decided against forming any alliance with the BJP for the upcoming 2026 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

Referring to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s recent Delhi visit, the MLA alleged that although the Chief Minister met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no discussion was held regarding the Tiprasa Accord, which he termed the “core issue” of Tripura’s indigenous people.

In his post, Debbarma stated that the Tiprasa community had believed the agreement would secure their constitutional rights, but the prolonged delay has created widespread distrust toward both the State and Central leadership.

Calling for unity among indigenous people, he urged Tiprasa youths and supporters to remain prepared for a democratic movement under the leadership of Bubagra Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. He asserted that “Thansa” (unity) is now the only path forward in the struggle for indigenous rights.

Political observers believe the MLA’s remarks may further intensify tensions between Tipra Motha and the BJP ahead of the crucial ADC elections.
