Agartala, December 22, 2025: As the year draws to a close, Tripura’s royal scion and Tipra Motha Party’s founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma voiced strong concerns over multiple issues including the long-pending demand for linguistic rights, the use of Roman script for Kokborok examinations, and the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections.

Addressing a press conference at Raj Andar on Sunday afternoon, Debbarma reiterated his party’s demand for recognition of Tiprasa’s linguistic rights. He emphasized that Tipra Motha does not seek confrontation with the government but highlighted that the demand for Kokborok in Roman script has been raised by the people of Tripura for years. “Even those outside politics support this demand. Both the Centre and the state must give it due importance,” he said.

Debbarma announced that by 2026, books in ADC areas would be published in local languages without waiting for state or central approval. He also raised concerns over cricket selection, pointing out that while Bangladesh cricketer David Mura Singh was bought for ₹9.2 crore in the IPL, players from India’s Northeast, such as Manishankar Mura Singh, were overlooked. “Had Manishankar played, it would have brought pride to the northeastern states,” he remarked.

On regional security, Debbarma accused Bangladesh of openly issuing threats to destabilize the Northeast while Pakistan continues covert attacks against India. He urged the central government to take strict measures to safeguard the region.

Turning to politics, Debbarma criticized Chief Minister’s claim that the BJP would win all 28 ADC seats. “If BJP believes it will sweep all seats, Tipra Motha will contest independently. The people will decide whether BJP wins 28 seats or just two,” he said. He reminded the ruling party of its commitment to a tripartite agreement and stressed that Tiprasa must stand with Tipra Motha to uphold promises made to the people.

Debbarma also condemned recent remarks by BJP leaders. He cited Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma’s statement on December 13, likening Tipra Motha to a rooster to be discarded, and another party leader’s claim that Tipra Motha would disappear after January. “Such comments reflect political hooliganism,” Debbarma asserted.

The press conference was attended by senior Tipra Motha leader Rajeshwar Debbarma along with other party members.
