Agartala, July 25, 2025: Tripura has recorded a significant rise in tourist arrivals, with footfall increasing from 5.29 lakh in 2018 to 7.60 lakh in 2024, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Friday.
The Minister shared the figures while addressing the Foundation Stone Laying Programme for tourism infrastructure development at Kamalasagar and the Chaturdash Devta Temple within the Kasba Kalibari Complex in Sepahijala district.
Chowdhury said the state government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, is committed to promoting religious tourism and positioning Tripura as a global destination. He highlighted two major religious tourism projects—development of the Kasbeswari Maa Temple and Chaturdash Devta Temple—sanctioned under Asian Development Bank funding. These projects, worth over ₹31 crore combined, have now been completed.
He pointed out that previous administrations failed to improve infrastructure at the Kasbeswari Maa Temple. In contrast, the current government has taken significant steps, similar to its efforts under the PRASAD Scheme that placed Tripura Sundari Temple on the international map.
“Infrastructure work has been completed. Our aim is to turn these religious sites into major tourist hubs, which will also generate employment for locals,” Chowdhury said.
He also announced that work is underway on a replica of the 51 Shakti Peethas at Banduar in Gomati district, expected to be completed within the next 18 months.
Looking ahead, the Minister said Tripura Tourism is set to move in a new direction over the next two years, focusing on attracting both domestic and international visitors. He added that the growing tourist influx will stimulate various sectors and contribute to the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
