Agartala, July 19, 2025: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Tripura police recovered approximately 10,000 Yaba tablets during a special search operation on Saturday afternoon. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
The seizure took place at the Poutakhali traffic naka point under Panisagar Police Station in North Tripura district, when a six-wheeled lorry bearing registration number NL01AE-8996 was stopped for inspection. The vehicle was transporting eggs from Guwahati, aroused suspicion during a routine check.
“Acting on a tip-off from confidential sources, we had set up a targeted search operation. The lorry was intercepted around noon. Initial checks raised our suspicions further, prompting us to inform the Panisagar police station and the SDM office,” said Soumya Debbarma, Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Panisagar.
A more thorough inspection of the vehicle was carried out in the presence of SDPO Soumya Debbarma and a DC officer. “We recovered a concealed packet containing around 10,000 Yaba tablets inside the vehicle,” the SDPO confirmed.
The accused identified as Milan Sinha of Kumarghat in Unakoti district was immediately taken into custody. Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Panisagar Police Station.
According to police sources, this seizure could be part of a larger drug trafficking network. “Interrogation of the accused is underway to identify others involved. We suspect an organized gang is behind this smuggling attempt,” an official stated.
Authorities have intensified efforts to trace the broader network and ensure all involved are brought to justice.
