Agartala, July 2, 2024: The number of illegal intrusions in the state is on a concerning rise, with recent events highlighting the issue’s urgency. On Tuesday, the railway police apprehended 11 illegal intruders from Bangladesh at the Agartala railway station.
“These 11 Bangladeshi citizens were detained at Agartala Badarghat railway station on Tuesday,” stated a police official. “Among them is a minor. All of them have entered India from Bangladesh to visit different parts of the country. They were preparing to travel to various states through Agartala railway station.”
The arrestees are- Alamin Sarkar (36), Abu Hanif Sardar (22), Sumaya Akhter (18), Tumpa Haque (18), Baishakhi (13), Lakhi Akhter (25), Jharna Begum (30), Aduri Khanam (24), Akhu Sekh (27), Deepa (34), etc.
The police recovered smartphones, various Bangladeshi documents, and Indian currency from the detainees. “They were handed over to the court on Wednesday, and we have filed a police remand application,” the official added. “After remanding them, we will gather more information to determine if they have any connections with previous intruders.”
This incident follows another similar case just two days prior, when 11 Bangladeshi nationals were detained at the same railway station. The escalating frequency of illegal infiltrations has raised serious concerns regarding national security and the effectiveness of border controls.
The police official emphasized, “As the number of illegal infiltrators increases almost every day, the security of the country along with the security of the border areas has also started to be questioned.”
