Agartala, August 2, 2025: In a shocking case of child cruelty, two minor sisters from Tripura’s Uttar Brajapur in Sepahijala district have become victims of abuse at the hands of their biological parents. A 14-year-old girl was reportedly beaten and locked inside her home after she refused to marry, sources said.

Failing to bear the torment, the teenager eventually found temporary shelter at her grandmother’s house. However, both the elder and her younger sister later fell ill and were admitted to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital. The circumstances leading to their illness remain under investigation, and their condition is currently being monitored by doctors.

The incident has triggered concern among child welfare authorities. On Saturday afternoon, Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma accompanied by other officials visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the minors. They met with attending doctors and assured that all necessary treatment and support would be provided.

“Strict action will be taken against those responsible. No child should be subjected to such cruelty,” said an official from the Commission.

Eyewitnesses at the hospital described an emotional scene, with the younger girl seen sitting quietly beside her ailing sister. The sight reportedly moved several onlookers to tears.

Authorities have launched an investigation and steps are underway to ensure the safety and future of the two girls.
