Agartala, November 29, 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal diversion of food grains, Birganj police on Friday night seized 162 sacks of government rice that had been unlawfully transported from an FCI godown in Chandrapur to Amarpur in Gomati district.

Acting on a tip-off, the Officer-in-Charge of Birganj police station formed multiple teams and launched a coordinated search for the suspected vehicle. Around 8:30 pm, police intercepted a truck (TR01-Q-1712) at the Nakacherra checking point. During questioning, driver Abul Hossain admitted that he had ferried undocumented PDS rice to a ration shop in Bampur, allegedly owned by Uttam Pal.

Following the confession, Amarpur SDPO Nirmal Das and the Birganj OC raided the ration shop, where the diverted stock was found. The Sub-Divisional Food Department was alerted, and officials soon arrived to take charge of the seized consignment and the truck.

Authorities also recovered equipment reportedly used for repackaging rice into smaller retail bags. Police said the matter is under investigation and further action will follow based on the findings.
