Agartala, September 04, 2025: Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday inaugurated a new 132 kV substation at Manu in Dhalai district, announcing that all government offices in the state will soon be brought under solar power.

Highlighting the state’s progress in the last seven years, the Minister said, “Before 2018, solar power generation was just 3 MW. Today, we have achieved 29 MW, and our target is to generate 150 MW by installing solar plates in 50,000 houses and for 10 lakh consumers in the next two years.”

He noted that Tripura’s dependence on gas-based power generation is becoming unsustainable due to dwindling supply, making solar energy a priority. “PM Modi has said if we have to live, we must rely on solar power. That is the path we are taking,” Nath added.

The Minister also shared data showing a significant expansion of the state’s power infrastructure since 2018. The number of consumers has risen from 7.21 lakh to 10.38 lakh, while 132 kV substations have increased from 12 to 20, with two more under construction. Similarly, 33 kV substations have grown from 44 to 75, with 18 more underway, and underground cabling has expanded from 95 km to 571 km.

The newly inaugurated Manu substation will directly benefit over 21,500 families across areas including Manu, Chailengta, SK Para, Dhumachara, Machli, 82 Miles, Nepal Tilla, Chamanu, Bagchara Manikpur, and Thaalchara.

Nath appealed to the public to cooperate with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) by informing about new electrical equipment being used locally so that transformer capacity can be upgraded on time, preventing power disruptions.

Underscoring the importance of uninterrupted supply, Nath said, “If demand is rising, it means the state is developing. Power is essential for everyone, beyond politics.”

The event was attended by MDCs Bimal Kanti Chakma and Sanjoy Das, MLAs Paul Dangshu and Shambhu Lal Chakma, along with senior officials and local representatives.
