Agartala, September 22, 2025: In a significant blow to cross-border drug trafficking, police seized 50,000 Yaba tablets from a luxury vehicle during a routine inspection at Churaibari Watch Post on Monday afternoon.
The interception took place around 1:30 PM in the Patharkandi area when a vehicle bearing registration number MZ01AA-4524, travelling from Mizoram towards Tripura, was stopped for checking. Acting on a prior tip-off, Watch Post in-charge Pranab Mili led the operation.
Though nothing was found during the initial search, police uncovered a concealed compartment behind the steering wheel containing 25 packets. Each packet held 2,000 Yaba tablets, making the total haul worth nearly Rs 2.5 crore in the illegal market.
Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure. The accused have been identified as Rajib Uddin (27), son of Joyjul Haque of Dalgram in Ratabari, and Dilwar Hussain (24), son of Rehan Uddin of Panighat in Patharkandi. Both are being booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Confirming the development, officer Pranab Mili said police will intensify their anti-narcotics operations to dismantle drug smuggling networks operating in the region.
