Tripura: 79 Packets of Cannabis Worth ₹15 Lakh Seized in Ambassa; Driver Flees During Police Raid

Agartala, December 20, 2025: In a major breakthrough in its ongoing anti-narcotics drive, Ambassa Police seized 79 packets of dry cannabis worth approximately ₹15 lakh on Saturday from a goods-laden vehicle at the Betbagan naka point.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Second Officer-in-Charge (OC) Joy Thapa intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number TR01AP 1631. As the vehicle approached the checkpoint, officers initiated a search operation. During the inspection, the driver managed to flee the scene, taking advantage of the commotion.

Upon thorough examination, the police recovered 79 packets of cannabis concealed within the vehicle. Speaking to reporters, Second OC Joy Thapa confirmed, “We had prior information that narcotics were being transported in the vehicle. Acting swiftly, we conducted a search and recovered the contraband. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding driver.”

This marks the third successful anti-drug operation by Ambassa Police within a week, reinforcing their commitment to curbing narcotics trafficking in the region. The series of swift actions has been met with appreciation from local residents, who have lauded the police for their vigilance and dedication.
