Agartala, December 02, 2025: Tripura police along with law enforcement personnel carried out large-scale anti-narcotics operations in Sepahijala district on Tuesday destroying illegal cannabis cultivation spread across more than 100 plots and destroying an estimated 8 lakh plants.
The coordinated raids were conducted by local police with support from the forest department, Tripura State Rifles and CRPF personnel. Key cultivation pockets in North Kalamchoura Gram Panchayat and adjoining areas of Bishalgarh were targeted during the operation.
In the first phase, a joint team led by Kalamchoura Police cleared plantations from the Pasania and Takkamura Tila forest areas between 7 am and 2 pm. Around 5.5 lakh immature cannabis plants were uprooted from at least 48 locations in this stretch.
Simultaneously, another team raided areas around Bishalgarh Police Station, covering Bangshibari village, Raghunandan Para and Jagatrambari. Between 7 am and 11 am, nearly 3 lakh immature cannabis plants were destroyed from roughly 70 plots.
Senior officials said the drives are part of continued efforts to curb illegal cultivation and dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in remote and forested regions of the state. All the plants were destroyed on the spot during the operations.
