Agartala, November 19, 2025: The death of 8-year-old Dipanwita Pal, a Class II student of Khudiram Bose English Medium School in Agartala city has triggered widespread shock and anger, with her family alleging that negligence and inhumane treatment by a teacher led to the tragedy.

According to the family, the incident took place on November 9 during a school programme when students were allegedly made to stand under the scorching sun for an extended period. Dipanwita reportedly felt unwell and informed her teacher, but her plea was ignored. Moments later, she collapsed. Doctors later confirmed that she had suffered sunstroke, leading to paralysis and progressive deterioration of her health. Despite days of treatment, the child passed away on Tuesday.

The grieving family has demanded justice and a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to her death.

Former Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik visited the family’s residence on Wednesday, interacted with the bereaved members, and assured them of full support. She also listened to their detailed account of the incident.

MP Rajib Bhattacharjee also visited the home, expressing deep sorrow and offering condolences. Describing the incident as extremely tragic, he prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Meanwhile, tensions continue to simmer in the locality, with residents demanding a full investigation and strict action against those responsible. The community has expressed outrage, calling for accountability from the school authorities.
